Substantive Editing:
Often referred to as “heavy editing,” substantive editing involves checking information for accuracy; addressing focus, structure, and development; eliminating redundancies, improving sentence structure, and adding transitions where they are needed; and correcting grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation. Substantive editing also addresses stylistic issues, including readability, consistency of tone, and appropriate diction.
